ABOUT US

Walking Football Leagues’ Alliance

The Walking Football Leagues’ Alliance (‘WFLA’) was formed in 2019. As at 1st January 2026 we have 32 member leagues.

The WFLA is a free to join, non-political, independent support network whose aims are to help establish, promote, and support walking football leagues and to encourage the growth of grassroots competitive walking football in safe environments. Our Constitution encompasses Sport England’s ‘Five Principles of Governance’: Structure; People; Communication; Standards and Conduct; Policies and Processes. This Constitution is reviewed annually.

Free membership is open to the organisers of any local or National walking football league.

Please Note – Should any walking football league wishing to join the WFLA and be part of the exciting times ahead for competitive Walking Football, and be part of its ongoing development, they can now complete an online application at https://wfla.org.uk/about-us-2/how-to-join-the-wfla/

The WFLA is run by a volunteer Management Committee drawn from our member leagues.

All would be become members of the WFLA in order that their teams can participate in well organised walking football competitions, playing to the FA LOTG’s in safe environments.

It’s completely free to join and we insist that no competition fixtures are played in caged pitches due to the risk of physical contact that inevitably arises in this type of venue. The age categories that we cater for are, mixed over 50s, 60s, 65s and 70s and also Women’s Mixed Age. All our referees are vetted and of the highest standard.

We often hear of competitions that are basically a farce with little guidelines on age restriction or the standard of venues. All of our management committee have vast experience in running and organising leagues and tournaments.

As we are sure you are aware, whilst we are seeing an improvement, the landscape of walking football is still somewhat fractured. The aim of the WFLA has always been to bring about greater unification and by having all walking football leagues becoming members to the organisation than we can continue to bring about greater consistency in the delivery of walking football. This will not be brought about by the committee of the WFLA but by the leagues communicating with each other through the conduit of communication that the WFLA provides and the sharing of best practice.

Our Pledge

  • The WFLA will always be a free to join, non-political, independent support network whose aims are to help establish, promote, and support all walking football leagues;
  • The WFLA will continue its efforts to work with all organisations to help them set up the Standard Code of Rules across all walking football competitions.
  • The WFLA will continue to look for new member leagues and encourage the growth of grassroots football through competitive walking football in safe environments. This is not negotiable;
  • The WFLA will continue to strengthen its Committees and panel of Referees with individuals who have the same values and commitment.
