Who They Are
They’re Prostate Cancer UK. They’re striving for a world where no man dies from prostate cancer.
1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer. They work to give every man the power to navigate it. Whether that’s helping you to understand your risk, make the right choice about treatment or get the expertise you need to feel informed and in control.
They make every pound count. They’ve invested over £100 million into the best researchers in the world to unravel the complexity of prostate cancer, so they can give men precise and personalised care with the right treatments at the right time, for the best chance of living the full life they want.
The advances in testing, funded by their supporters – like huge improvements in MRI scans- are blazing a trail towards a screening programme. In the near future, every man at risk of prostate cancer could be invited for regular, accurate tests that can catch cancer early enough for a cure, saving thousands of our Dads, partners, brothers and friends every year.
Their Impact So Far
A man diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1996, when Prostate Cancer UK was founded, faced a very different world.
Today, over £100 million pounds worth of research has transformed what the path ahead looks like for men. And they’ve built a tailored support system to help them navigate every step.
Together, they’ve achieved:
- £100 million invested into world-class research.
- 15,000 contacts to our Specialist Nurses every year.
- mpMRI scanning technology in hospitals across the UK.
- Development of the world’s first precision medicine for prostate cancer.
- Over one million risk checks, and 8,000 more men starting treatment compared to last year.
Their Partnership With WFLA
As part of this exciting partnership, Prostate Cancer UK agreed to sponsor the 2025 WFLA League Champions Cup. In recognition, the cup competition was renamed ‘Prostate Cancer UK WFLA League Champions Cup’.
On the Walking Football Leagues’ Alliance partnership with Prostate Cancer UK in December 2024, Derek Murr, WFLA’s Treasurer said, “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It affects 1 in 8 men; that’s dads, brothers, partners, best mates and a lot of men who play walking football. Our players range from 40’s up to men in their 70 and 80s. Walking football is a fantastic way to keep fit, enjoy our passion for football but it’s also a great audience to talk about men’s health and prostate cancer risk specifically. I’m very aware men over 50, Black men and men with a family history of prostate cancer are at greater risk so we can share this message during our 2025 competition. Prostate Cancer UK has a strong pedigree in football and we hope to help them continue this legacy in walking football now too; as well as raising funds to stop men dying of prostate cancer. We look forward to working together with Prostate Cancer UK in 2025.”
If you are interested in sharing a prostate cancer experience with them or would like both awareness and fundraising materials for your club they would be really keen to hear from you. Learning about people’s different experiences of the disease helps them continue to build the broadest understanding and sensitively share important messages to a wider audience in effective ways.
