This was the fourth occasion that the WFLA held its annual Inter League Cup. This year’s one-day event of age-category ‘Finals’ were held at Coleshill Town FC. We saw entries for 2025 increase by 34% over 2024.
Most of teams competing in this year’s one-day event had gone through a ‘Regional’ knock out process and there were league teams from all corners of the country competing on the day. Everybody from the Over 50’s to the Women’s Over 50’s provided some high-quality football and all fixtures were played in the correct spirit, as we see the standard of competitive walking football increase year-on-year.
Fortunately, the weather was kind to us, and throughout the day it was fine and dry.
Thanks must go to:
- The staff at Coleshill Town FC, our venue this year, who kept the players fed and watered;
- Mike Willmore and his Referee’s squad of, Dave Bent, Marcus Brown, Matt Howells, Stan Jackson, Kevin Lambert, Mick Lowley, Garry Pearce, and Stuart Saint. Surely these officials are some of the best in the country;
- Chairman Tony Norton, Treasurer Derek Murr and Secretary Bill Murney for their hard work on the day, not forgetting our Vice Chairman, Colin Strong who organised the venue;
- St. John Ambulance for providing medical cover for the day;
- Colchester Trophies for supplying the trophies.

“All WFLA competitions are sanctioned by a local FA and all our member leagues are affiliated to the only National Governing Body, the Football Association. With its annual competitions the WFLA will continue its efforts to work with the FA in helping them set up the Standard Code of Rules (‘LOTG’s) across all walking football competitions and to encourage the growth of grassroots football through competitive walking football in safe environments.”
