Free Entry To Prostate Cancer UK WFLA League Champions Cup Competition For 2025!

Further to the news of the 18th December 2024, regarding our partnership with Prostate Cancer UK, the Walking Football Leagues’ Alliance (‘WFLA’) Management Committee are pleased to announce that for clubs/teams wanting to compete in the Prostate Cancer UK WFLA League Champions ‘Finals’ will now be granted free entry.

Derek Murr, the WFLA Treasurer says, “We have been working with Prostate Cancer UK on this project for several weeks, so I am extremely pleased that we are now able to announce this new initiative. Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK. With thousands of supporters taking a stand, Prostate Cancer UK can fund research to transform the way this cancer is understood, diagnosed and treated. I hope that with WFLA’s support and having Prostate Cancer UK as a partner and a sponsor we can further highlight the men and their families living with the disease right now.

If you are interested in sharing a prostate cancer experience with them or would like both awareness and fundraising materials for your club they would be really keen to hear from you. Learning about people’s different experiences of the disease helps them continue to build the broadest understanding and sensitively share important messages to a wider audience in effective ways. You can get in touch with Prostate Cancer UK by emailing them at football@prostatecanceruk.org.

As a reminder, the Prostate Cancer UK WFLA League Champions Cup competition is by invitation to teams who were the Champions of the top division of an aged category league as at the 31st December 2024 and are members of the WFLA.

The WFLA defined age categories are:

  • Over 50’s
  • Over 60’s
  • Over 65’s
  • Over 70’s
  • Women’s Over 40’s
  • Women’s Over 50’s

Dependent on the number of teams attracted to these competitions there could be a possibility of including a ‘Regional’ Round for qualification to the ‘Finals’ at Coleshill Town FC on Sunday 27th July 2025. For teams that have yet to register, an entry can be submitted here.

Further news on this will be published, once the competitions’ entry process has been completed.
