WFLA Announce Change to Women’s Cup Competitions – To Take Immediate Effect!

The Walking Football Leagues’ Alliance (‘WFLA’) Management Committee have made the decision that as from immediate effect there will only be one Women’s Cup competition across the Inter League and League Champions Cups.

Henceforth, the Women’s Over 40’s and Women’s Over 50’s will be merged into what is now to be named as ‘Women’s Mixed Age’. There will be only one age restriction, all players have to be aged 40 and above. This includes the forthcoming Prostate Cancer UK League Champions Cup being held at Coleshill Town FC on Sunday 27th July 2025.

This decision has been based upon the feedback received from current competing teams, with some players playing for both age categories. Also difficulties in recruiting clubs/leagues/teams into these type of competition, teams withdrawing just before the event, and the WFLA’s wish to align its competitions with other national organisers of walking football.

“All WFLA competitions are sanctioned by a local FA and all our member leagues are affiliated to the only National Governing Body, the Football Association. With its annual competitions the WFLA will continue its efforts to work with the FA in helping them set up the Standard Code of Rules (‘LOTG’s) across all walking football competitions and to encourage the growth of grassroots football through competitive walking football in safe environments.”
