Derek Murr Appointed As New WFLA Chairman

Derek Murr

Derek Murr, the current WFLA Treasurer has agreed to take on the role of the WFLA Chairman from immediate effect. This was proposed and agreed unanimously by the other members of the WFLA Management team.

To comply with the WFLA’s Constitution, Derek must divest himself from the role of the WFLA Treasurer immediately after the 2026 AGM. Please see also the posting WFLA Looking To Appoint A Treasurer – Applications Required.”

Derek says on his new appointment, “Firstly, let me thank all of the other WFLA Management Committee members for their support;  the leagues/clubs/teams that competed in our competitions and the Referees that officiated at our events this year. A special thank you goes to Tony Norton, the outgoing WFLA Chairman, for his guidance and support: And of course, to Prostate Cancer UK for their sponsorship of both competitions this year.“

In his new role of the WFLA Chairman and with the news of the partnership between the FA and the WFA, Derek says, “This should be proof enough, that the WFLA was ahead of the game. Since its inception one of our stated aims has been to bring about greater unification and greater consistency in the delivery of walking football. We have always been about working with all organisations to help set up a Standard Code of Rules across all walking football competitions, even if they refused to work with us!

On how will this partnership impact the WFLA? Derek says, “That has yet to be determined, but I hope that our League Champions and Inter League Cups will continue to be supported going forward. I can assure everybody that our standards will not drop!”
